The simple logic is that most region’s hospitality industry depends on tourists.

If there are a lots of tourists, they will need Accommodation.

Hotels in places like Thailand and Greece would suffer if they didn’t have outbound tourists. For most of the world’s small population, foreign tourists are the main source of hotel industry.

It is hard to believe that China’s epidemic prevention has been going on for three years.
Probably if there were no pandemic, all the tourist resorts in the world have not considered what it would be like without Chinese tourists.

China is the world’s largest source of outbound tourist.

Chinese tourists are also the largest consumer group of outbound tourists.

According to a Citibank reports-in 2019 the quantity of outbound trip from China reached 155 million and consume $255 billion to the global economy.
In the recent several years, China has led the world in both the number of outbound tourists and the expenditure on outbound tourism.

In the beginning of 2023, with the optimization and upgrading of China’s epidemic prevention and control policies, Chinese tourists are now returning.
They will bring a wave of vitality to the global retail and hospitality industry.

As we all know, China has implemented a ‘zero-Covid policy’ since 2020, which has restricted the outbound travel of Chinese people.
This policy lasted three years and was finally finished in beginning of 2023.

Without Chinese tourists, the tourism and hospitality industry in many countries have been hit hard in the past three years

Singapore-

Statistics from the Singapore Tourism Board show that nearly 3.63 million Chinese tourists visited Singapore in 2019.
Tourism accounted for 10 percent of Singapore’s GDP in 2019, according to the World Data Atlas.
But since the pandemic started, that number has plummeted, and tourism has been in a slump for nearly two years.

Before the 2020, Chinese tourists were among Singapore’s top tourists source.  Accounting for nearly 1/6 of overseas tourists, reaching more than 3.6 million person-times.
After the 2020, Chinese tourists dropped sharply, dropping out of the top five tourist sources.

This year, Chinese outbound tourism has resumed, and many Singaporean media outlets have published experts’ predictions that Chinese tourists will recover 30 to 60 percent this year, bringing billions of dollars in new revenue to Singapore.

Many Chinese tourists have not been to Singapore for nearly three years and they feel a little un-familiar

Tourism operators in Singapore not only welcome Chinese tourists, but also make preparations to organize Singaporean tourists to visit China.

Australia-

Last year, the 9News, an Australian media outlet, wrote that because “no Chinese tourists from China leaves $12 billion black hole in crippled Aussie tourism sector ‘
Before the pandemic(till 2019), China was Australia’s largest source of tourists and total consumption.

The Figures from the Tourism and Transport Forum (TFF) shows in 2019, 1.4 million Chinese tourists spent A $12.2 billion in Australia, more than a quarter of the total spent by all international tourists.

To help Australia’s tourism industry recover quickly, Tourism Australia launched a global marketing campaign called “Come and Say G ‘Day” in a number of key international markets in October 2022.
The event, which is expected to be officially launched in the Chinese market in the second half of 2023, will showcase Australia’s unique food and wine, beautiful waterfront scenery, unique wildlife, and mysterious ancient Aboriginal culture and wisdom to Chinese tourists, providing them with rich inspiration for their travel to Australia.

From the 2023 Spring Festival tourism situation.  Chinese tourists prefer closer Asian countries, such as Thailand and the Philippines.  This has something to do with friendly local policies.  On the other hand, it is cheaper than Europe and America.

For the global travel and hospitality industry, the absence of Chinese tourists has been a three-year malaise.

3 years pause- this is incredible.
We can’t comment on China’s epidemic prevention policies, but after all, the three-year pause is over.

There is no doubt that Chinese tourists are indispensable to the world hotel industry and the world economy.
When China tourist return in 2023, We can believe one thing- the world hospitality industry will go back to the normal status, just like the years before 2020. There is a bright future to look forward to.
